How to pay toll fee using GrabPay on a Grab ride?

If you thought you always had to pay cash on every toll plaza when you’re on a Grab ride… Surprise! this is for you.

The kind of cars you can book in Grab Singapore

If you’re short on cash, want to utilize the GrabPay system, or simply just don’t want to take out any cash from your wallet, worry no more. Book a ride using GrabPay. Ask the driver that you want the toll fee to be charged via GrabPay. In case the driver isn’t sure how this is done, walk them through with these simple steps

Once you’ve reached your destination, driver must do the following:

  1. Press the drop-off button from his Grab app. That will take the driver to the edit bill information page.
  2. There are two things on that page. The actual fare and the ‘toll fee and other surcharges. Driver needs to edit the tolls and other surcharges by pressing on the input box beside the label and keying in the amount.
  3. Once done, the driver just needs to confirm.
  4. After confirmation, this will take the driver to a new page displaying the final bill with the total amount including the toll fee.
  5. Your new total will be charged accordingly to your GrabPay and be credited to the driver’s wallet.

Surprise! Surprise again!

I just booked today and received this message in my inbox

It appears there’s a new update in the app. If you’re familiar with Uber, this feature feels kind of late. Uber’s got a feature that automatically includes toll fees in the fare if it detects a tollway along the route. The driver is then obligated to pay the first toll fee from his own pocket. Yup! No need to disturb passengers on the road just to ask for cash payment. And did I mention it’s part of the total fare suggested when you book?

Never mind. So it’s basically a new feature from Grab. Congratulations! Achievement unlocked! Better late than never. Though, I haven’t personally experienced it yet. I just saw the notice today.

I checked my fare details and this is all it shows. I doubt it’s the surcharges. It’s always been there, I think. I believe it should specifically say, “toll fee”.

Oh well! Fee free to drop me some screenshots when you see it. I’ll cite you in the credits, if you like. Otherwise, I’ll share and update this article once I get to ride again.

Ciao!
